Continuing your Insurance

Your insured death cover will cease 30 days from the date you are no longer employed with an employer participating in the Fund. However, provided you are not retiring from the workforce, you currently have the option of continuing your insurance at your own expense by taking out a personal policy with the Fund's insurer. This option allows you to obtain the same amount of cover with the Fund's insurer without having to produce evidence of health. This option may cease to be available at some future time. If it does, the Trustee will inform you as soon as possible.

What if I remain employed? If you remain employed with an employer participating in the Fund and you give an instruction that your benefit is to be transferred to another fund, your insurance will cease on the day your benefit is transferred from VISSF. In this circumstance the insurer does not give you the option of taking out a policy to continue your insurance at your own expense.

No insured benefits are available through the Fund if you no longer have an employer contributing to the Fund on your behalf.

Is there a time limit? If you wish to take advantage of the option to take out a personal insurance policy with the Fund's insurer, you must contact the VISSF office prior to your termination date or no later than 30 days after that date. The option to continue your insurance must be taken up no later than 30 days from your termination date.
